{ Hanging Chair by MUT }

Nautica Chair by MUT
The Nautica Chair designed by MUT forms part of their 2012 product range, which was recently showcased at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Inspired by light reflecting on the ocean, this chair looks like the perfect way to sit back, relax and at least pretend like you’re on a beach holiday.

{ Skinny laMinx: Wild Flowers }

I’m always excited to see what gorgeous new designs Heather Moore creates for her label Skinny laMinx, so I was thrilled to see the lovely animation she created to promote her new collection ‘Flower Dreams’. The centerpiece of this collection is ‘Wild Flowers’ which is a large-scale two colour screenprinted design available in four colourways: Strawberry Humbug, Lemon Humbug, Strawberry Plum and Lemon Plum. For more Skinny laMinx loving you can visit the blog, shop on etsy or read a previous post here.

{ Take a Seat }

Liam Mooney Chairs
South African product designer Liam Mooney has an outstanding selection of chairs as part of his signature range. I’m all over The Lowveld Stool which is based on the organic form of a tractor seat. You can also have a look at his amazing wine vases here.

{ Dokter and Misses }

Adriaan Hugo and Katy Taplin are the married design duo, which has in recent years taken the designer furniture market in South Africa by storm. Starting out in 2007 with a Dokter and Misses showroom at 44 Stanley in Johannesburg, they instantly made a name for themselves and received countless features in acclaimed design press. They have since also opened shop alongside fashion designer David West at 113 Long Street, Cape Town. Here they have created a space where the design aesthetics of these two labels mesh perfectly. Dokter and Misses design and produce a variety of original furniture and lighting pieces and is also a platform through which Adriaan Hugo showcases his own signature range. Their work is marked by true Bauhaus simplicity and function, with a uniquely humorous edge and fun colour palette. See more of their great pieces here.

{ Pedersen + Lennard }

Luke Pedersen and James Lennard are the design masterminds behind the Cape Town based brand, Pedersen + Lennard. Marked by their fascination with South African craft and the clean aesthetic of their Scandinavian forefathers, they not only produce quality products, but design objects of desire that are innovative, simple and quirky.

It was love at first sight when I saw Pedersen + Lennard’s signature piece, the ‘bucket stool’ at the 2010 Design Indaba in South Africa. They now produce the version 2 ‘bucket stool’ that has a table surface under the seat, which can be flipped to use as a side table. The bucket is ideal for some extra storage space too.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend this year’s Design Indaba, but apparently Pedersen + Lennard’s new ‘Ingvar Range’ created quite a stir and I can see why. Inspired by Ikea’s founder Ingvar Kamprad, this flat-pack range made from Scandinavian birch saves on shipping costs and has an 80% saving on packaging materials. It comes with all the necessary bolts and an Allen key and is super easy to assemble – I hear.

To check out more of their awesome lighting, furniture and storage products, visit their website here, and their showroom here.

{ Cross-stitch Revisited }

Don’t you just love it when people take traditional craft and turn it into something fresh and current? Well I certainly do – That’s why I went all giddy when I came across the work of these three super chicks. Their approach to cross-stitch is marked by unconventional materials & subject matter with the essence of the craft as their inspiration.

Janick is the creator of Nea. She has the most amazing jewellery and wall wear range. I love the texture and scale of her jewellery and of course her unique take on cross-stitch.  Check out more of her work on her Etsy page.

I’m a sucker for Typographic art, and I adore this cross-stitch poster from Bubbo-Tubbo. Natasha Mileshina is the designer behind this “we make sense” limited edition series. These prints come signed and personalized, what a great gift. Go check out more of her work here.

How awesome is this stainless steel cross-stitch table, by Imogen Luddy. Do yourself a favour and check out her super wall at Supermarket Sarah. I just love her modern take on doilies.
